Frequently asked questions

Finding the right part

How do I find my BMW's chassis code?

The chassis code is BMW's name for a model generation, such as E90, F30 or G20. There are three ways to find it:

  • Decode your VIN. The 17-character VIN is on your registration document and on the label in the driver's door pillar. Characters 4 to 7 are BMW's type code, not the chassis code, so enter the full VIN into a free online BMW VIN decoder. It shows the chassis code and production date.
  • Check the door-pillar label. The label on the driver's door pillar shows the VIN and, on many cars, the month and year of production.
  • Use your registration document. It shows the model and date of first registration. Match them to our chassis code table.

What do LCI and pre-LCI mean?

LCI stands for Life Cycle Impulse, BMW's name for the mid-life facelift of a model. LCI cars often have different lights, bumpers or trim, so a part can fit one version and not the other. Examples: E90 saloon LCI from 2008, F10 from 2013, F20 and F30 from 2015, G30 from 2020 and G20 from 2022. Go by your car's production date rather than its registration date. Each product's fitment table says which version it suits.

Does it matter whether my car is left- or right-hand drive?

For some parts, yes. Door pulls, window switch packs, dashboard trim and headlights can differ between left-hand-drive (LHD) and right-hand-drive (RHD) cars. Where it matters, the product page has a Drive side option. Choose the one that matches your car, not the country you live in.

My climate panel has 11, 12 or 14 buttons. Which kit do I need?

Count the buttons on your panel and choose the matching layout. The number depends on the options your car was built with, such as seat heating, seat ventilation and multi-zone climate control, so two cars of the same model and year can have different panels. Compare your panel with the layout photos on the product page. If you are unsure, email us a photo of your panel.

Are your parts genuine BMW parts?

No. We sell aftermarket parts made to fit BMW cars. bmwmods is not affiliated with, authorised or endorsed by BMW AG. Where a listing gives the BMW part number a part replaces, we show it as "replaces OE no." so you can compare.

Can you check that a part fits before I order?

Yes. Email a photo of the part or panel you want to replace to info@bmwmods.com, with your car's model, chassis code and year or its VIN. We reply within 1-2 business days.

Will I pay import duties in the United States?

No. US prices include import duties, so there is nothing extra to pay on delivery. We pay the US import charges when we dispatch your order.

What about customs and VAT in the UK and EU?

Our prices include VAT where it applies. The product page shows where each variant is dispatched from. If a carrier asks you to pay an import charge on an order to a UK or EU address, email us with your order number before you pay.

How do I track my order?

We email a tracking number for every order once it has been dispatched. If your parcel hasn't arrived by the end of the delivery window for your region, email us with your order number.

Returns and guarantees

Can I return a part?

Yes. You can return unused parts in their original condition within 30 days of delivery, which is longer than the 14-day withdrawal period under EU law. Email us first and we will send you the return address. If you simply changed your mind, you pay the return postage. We refund within 14 days of receiving the return. See our refund policy.

What is the fit guarantee?

If a part doesn't fit the car or panel shown in its fitment table, we send a replacement or give a full refund, including return postage. If the return postage would cost more than the part, we may refund you without asking for the part back. See Fit guarantee.

What if a part arrives faulty or stops working?

Faulty parts are covered by the 2-year legal guarantee under EU consumer law. Email us with your order number and photos or a short video of the fault, and we will arrange a replacement or refund.
