Most G11 and G12 owners start with small exterior changes: gloss black mirror caps, sequential LED mirror indicators, grille accent strips and a boot lid spoiler. At the time of writing these run from around €15 for grille strips to around €105 for the spoiler, so a first round of changes can stay under €250. The big jobs are LCI bodywork, from around €790 for an LCI bonnet up to around €4,640 for a full LCI conversion kit for the G12.
Which 7 Series do you have?
This guide covers the 2015-2022 7 Series. G11 is the standard wheelbase saloon and G12 is the long wheelbase saloon. There is no Touring or coupé in this generation. If you are not sure which code your car carries, our guide on how to find your BMW chassis code shows where to look.
The facelift, which BMW calls the LCI, arrived in 2019. The most obvious change is the much larger kidney grille, and the front and rear ends were reshaped around it. That means bonnets, bumpers, bumper trims and grille parts are split into pre-LCI (2015-2019) and LCI (2019-2022) versions. The second question is the bumper. M Sport cars have differently shaped bumpers from the standard car, so anything that follows the bumper shape has to match yours. Mirrors, the boot lid spoiler and the interior parts below are not affected by this.
Mirror caps and mirror parts
Mirror caps are the most popular change on this car, partly because the G11 shares its mirror design with the G30 5 Series and G20 3 Series, so there is plenty of choice. Gloss black is the usual pick, as it matches black window trim and works on any paint colour.
Most of these are full replacement caps rather than stick-on covers. Fitting means tilting the mirror glass out, releasing the clips on the old cap and clipping the new one in place. Allow about an hour for both sides and do it on a warm day, when old clips are less brittle. Before ordering, check whether the listing is for left-hand drive only or covers both, and compare the photos with your mirrors if your car has cameras in the mirror housings.

Lighting: sequential mirror indicators
Sequential LED indicators replace the standard repeater strip in each mirror with one that sweeps in the direction of the turn. They fit in the same place, with the mirror glass removed, and plug into the existing connector. The job is similar to fitting mirror caps, so many owners do both at once. Check the listing for left or right-hand drive, and check local rules for your country before fitting.
Our view: buy them as a pair. The pair of sequential mirror indicators at around €41 is the simplest choice, and the alternative indicator pair at around €51 is there if you prefer its look.
Exterior trim and spoilers
The gloss black M Performance style boot spoiler, around €106, fits both G11 and G12 from 2015 to 2022. It is held on with adhesive tape. Clean the boot lid with an alcohol wipe, dry fit it first and mark the position with masking tape before peeling the backing. Once it is stuck, removal is possible but takes care to avoid marking the paint.
Kidney grille accent strips at around €15 clip over the grille slats to add a stripe of colour. Because the LCI grille is completely different, compare the listing photos with your grille before ordering. The carbon fibre shark fin antenna cover, around €58, sticks over the existing aerial. The carbon fibre door handle covers, around €101, are another stick-on job; check the photos so you know exactly which part of the handle they cover.
LCI parts and conversions
These are body shop jobs rather than driveway jobs. The LCI bonnet, around €792, is shaped for the larger LCI grille, so it suits an LCI car after front-end damage, not a pre-LCI car on its own. The LCI rear bumper trim, around €258, is likewise for LCI cars. Plan for paint matching and professional fitting unless the listing says otherwise.
The LCI conversion kit for the pre-LCI G12, around €4,637, is for long wheelbase cars only. Read the listing carefully for what is included, and budget for paint, labour and possibly coding on top. Our view: it makes most sense when a pre-LCI car needs front-end repair anyway.
Interior and small accessories
The start-stop memory plug, around €43, makes the car remember your last auto start-stop setting instead of switching it back on at every start. It plugs in without cutting wires and can be removed before sale. The crystal start button cover, around €19, fits over the engine start button; compare the photos with your button first.
The suede steering wheel trim strips, around €44, are made for the M Sport steering wheel, so check you have that wheel before ordering.

- Fit the start-stop memory plug. It costs little and you notice it every drive.
- Do mirror caps and sequential indicators together, since both jobs start with the mirror glass out.
- Add grille accent strips if your grille suits them.
- Fit the boot spoiler last among the small jobs, once you are happy with the rest of the look.
- Leave LCI parts for when the car needs body repair anyway.
